Game of Thrones fans were in for a treat with season seven’s momentous fourth episode, titled The Spoils of War.

“In season six, which was our biggest season up to that point, we had eleven shots featuring Emilia [Daenerys] riding the dragon,” VFX supervisor Joe Bauer says in the first behind-the-scenes featurette below. “In The Loot Train we had over eighty.”

And what a spectacle it was. Daenerys riding on dragonback, laying to waste the Lannister and Tarly armies, gave us one of the biggest moments in Game of Thrones history, culminating in Drogon getting injured and Jamie Lannister sinking to the bottom of a lake. The entire sequence is given a behind-the-scenes spotlight below, in a featurette showcasing the stuntwork, pyrotechnics, and CG wizardry that went into crating the incredible attack scene.

We’ve also included the weekly “Inside the Episode” featurette, with showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff this time discussing Arya’s return to Winterfell and the cave scene with Daenerys and Jon Snow – and yes, there may be some romance brewing. “To make it all even more complicated, they’re starting to be attracted to each other,” Benioff says. “And so much of it is not from dialogue or anything that we wrote, it’s just the two of them in a small space, standing near each other, and us just watching that and feeling that heat of that.”

It’s heating up everywhere in GoT; just ask the record 20 stuntmen burned in one shot.

Check out the featurettes below, and have a look at the trailer for next week’s ep right HERE.
