Maisie Williams has said goodbye to Game of Thrones.
The actress, who plays Arya Stark in the hugely popular HBO series, has apparently finished her work on the show’s final season and has taken to social media with an intriguing post. “Goodbye Belfast. Goodbye Arya. Goodbye Game of Thrones,” Williams posted with an image of bloody sneakers.
Curiously, the caption also included the hashtag #lastwomanstanding, which could be teaser of what Arya’s in for in the final season. Will she survive it all? Does that mean we’ll be saying goodbye to some of the other female characters before the final credits roll? Or perhaps it doesn’t mean much at all. Let the speculation begin.
It’s no doubt a big chapter for Williams, who landed the role of Arya at age 14. She was chosen from a pool of 300 young actresses across England.
While a year without Game of Thrones has been tough (thank goodness for the ridiculously large variety of quality television available), it’s very likely that the final chapter will be well worth the wait. Season 8 will feature only 6 episodes, but each will be around movie-length in duration. Next year can’t come soon enough.
And fear not: HBO isn’t going to let this universe go once GoT wraps. A prequel series pilot has already been ordered.
