‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Episode 2 Behind the Scenes: Creating Winterfell, Fireplace Drinking & More

HBO

A 20-minute behind-the-scenes look at Game of Thrones season 8, episode 2 has arrived.

Winterfell has certainly come some way since season 1. What was originally depicted with a courtyard and a couple of sets has now evolved into a massive castle. The benefits of a hit series means an expanding budget every season, and we’ve got one expensive chapter here, as the team crafts elaborate sets, with difficult locale weather, with working features and minute details that make it all feel as real as possible.

“You’re completely transported,” says Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark. “You have to remind yourself by knocking on the walls and then you can hear that it’s fake.”

The BTS featurette also looks at the tense sit-down between Sansa and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), and that great fireplace scene, which had Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), and Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), among others, coming together for some drinks around the fireplace.
