Take a look at the very promising trailer that’s been released for Gangs of London, an upcoming Sky Atlantic series boasting The Raid 1 & 2 helmer Gareth Evans as one of its directors and writers.

Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror) stars as a gangster who embarks on a mission of vengeance and power-taking after his father, the head of his crime family, is assassinated. Carnage ensues as international gangs battle it out for control.

Yeah, this one’s shot up towards the top of our most highly-anticipated shows. Evans’ signature style of kick-ass action looks to be on brutal display, plus there’s a strong cast that includes Sope Dirisu, Colm Meaney, Lucian Msamati and Michelle Farley, and a crime-drama canvas that could make for an engrossing plot. Cole is a stand-out actor (we highly suggest you watch his severely underrated prison-drama A Prayer Before Dawn if you haven’t) and it’s great to see him get a lead role in a series.

Fingers crossed for this one. Gangs of London, also featuring direction from Xavier Gens (Frontiers, Hitman) and Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun), will be hitting Sky Atlantic and streaming service Now TV later this year. Other markets, such as Australia and U.S., are yet to be announced.

Official synopsis for Gangs of London:

When the head of a criminal organisation, Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) is assassinated, the sudden power vacuum his death creates threatens the fragile peace between the intricate web of gangs operating on the streets of the city. Now it’s up to the grieving, volatile and impulsive Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) to restore control and find those responsible for killing his father.

The series is directed by Gareth Evans, Corin Hardy and Xavier Gens and has a cast including Joe Cole, Colm Meaney, Sope Dirisu and Michelle Fairley.
