Gerard Butler & Frank Grillo to Star in Action Movie from ‘The Grey’ Director Joe Carnahan

What sounds like the recipe for a fun action-thriller is coming together here. Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo will be starring in Copshop, a feature from director Joe Carnahan, whose credits include Narc, Smokin’ Aces, The Grey and The A-Team.

The film will see a small-town police station become a battleground between a professional hitman (Butler), a smart rookie female cop, and a double-crossing con man (Grillo) who seeks refuge behind bars with no place left to run. The rookie cop has yet to be cast.

Carnahan has written the most recent draft of the screenplay, which originally came from up-and-comer Kurt McLeod. The film will be shooting in Georgia and New Mexico this coming October, with Open Road Films to release it in the US and STXinternational to release in the UK and Ireland – as well as shop it to international distributors.

“WarParty is beyond excited to be teaming with Raven, Open Road, STX and G-BASE on Copshop,” said Grillo and Carnahan, together also producing the film via their WarParty Films banner. “We feel that this is a movie that can play big globally but be made sensibly and we are always looking for this type of ‘elevated genre’ where the writing really drives the action and the drama. We also couldn’t be happier to have someone with the box-office power of Gerard Butler as our partner in crime on this film.”

“Nothing better than working w your boys,” Grillo posted on social media:

As Carnahan moves onto Copshop, we’re still waiting for the release of his action sci-fi film Boss Level, starring Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts and Michelle Yeoh. The film, which was shot in 2018, has been met with delays and distributor issues.
