Some good news for those that were let down by the Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig attempt at a Ghostbusters reboot. Ghostbusters 3 is on the way – with a number of the original stars!
Not only are Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd returning to the franchise they kicked off in 1984, Sigourney Weaver has now confirmed that she will be back, reprising her role as Dana Barrett, the cellist that later became the evil gatekeeper Zuul. The film will not be associated with that gender-flipped reboot.
“It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver said in an interview with Parade magazine, which has a decent-sized write-up on the star’s lengthy career. The article, by the way, doesn’t mention Ernie Hudson among the returning players, but other outlets are expecting him to return.
“I knew it would be big,” Weaver said of the original film. ” The script was so funny and full of heart. Ghostbusters changed my life.”
Ghostbusters 3 will be directed by Jason Reitman, who’s the son of the original’s director, Ivan Reitman, and whose credits include Juno and Up in the Air. Reitman has written the screenplay with Gil Kenan, whose worked primarily as director with credits including Monster House and 2015’s Poltergeist.
The film will also star Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, It), and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers). It is is scheduled to hit US cinemas on July 10, 2020.
