Gina Rodriguez will be playing Carmen Sandiego in a live-action Netflix movie.
Rodriguez, known for playing the lead role in the comedy-soap series Jane the Virgin, had last year signed on to voice the character in a Netflix animated series. The streaming giant now want to expand the brand and plans to have Rodriguez leading across the board.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Rodriguez will also be producing Carmen Sandiego via her I Can and I Will productions banner. Kevin Misher (The Scorpion King, The Interpreter) and Caroline Fraser are also producing.
Carmen Sandiego, which some may know better as Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, is a media franchise that become popular as an edutainment brand. American software company Broderbund created a series of video games that have the players chasing after Carmen Sandiego, a thieving villain and nemesis of the ACME Detective Agency, around the world while learning about geography. The brand has tackled TV shows, comics, books and board games.

Rodriguez looks be making solid strides to expand her resume away from her Jane the Virgin stylings. The actress recently showed different range in Alexa Garland’s Annihilation and will soon be starring in a remake of acclaimed 2011 Mexican thriller Miss Bala.
