The nominations have been announced for the 2019 Golden Globes.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has lined up a decent mix of nominees, many as expected, some surprises, and some snubs. Political comedy-drama Vice, Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born, dark period comedy The Favourite, and road trip film Green Book were the top dogs in the film realm. Vice scored six noms, including Best Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Christian Bale; The Favourite, A Star is Born and Green Book earned five nods each.
As expected, Marvel’s Black Panther earned love, receiving nominations for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Score and Best Song (“All the Stars”). Alfonso Cuaron was surprisingly snubbed for directing ROMA, although the film did receive a Best Foreign Language Film nom. Bohemian Rhapsody earned a Best Musical or Comedy nom and Rami Malek is up for Best Actor; Claire Foy was nominated for First Man (although the film only earned one other nom – Score); and teen actress Else Fischer scored a Best Actress nom for Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade.
In the television world, The Americans, Barry and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel received four nominations each. Amy Adams scored two nominations: one for Best Actress in a Limited Series (Sharp Objects) and one for Best Supporting Actress in Musical or Comedy (Vice).
The 2019 Golden Globes, with Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh hosting, will be airing in the US on January 6, 2019.
