New ‘Good Fortune’ Trailer: Angel Keanu Reeves Makes Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari Swap Lives

Keanu Reeves has wings – little ones – in the official trailer that’s arrived for Good Fortune, the upcoming comedy from Aziz Ansari. Watch the trailer above and read on for the heavenly chaos ahead.

A guardian angel, but make it budget

Reeves stars as Gabriel, a well-meaning but slightly underqualified guardian angel whose divine tasks typically involve stopping people from texting while driving. But when Gabriel crosses paths with Arj (played by Ansari), a burnt-out gig worker with envy issues and big dreams, he decides it’s time to level up his miracle game.

The solution he comes up with: A full-on Freaky Friday swap between Arj and Jeff (Seth Rogen), a tech bro with wealth, status, and a disco-lit mansion. Gabriel hopes the experiment will help Arj appreciate his life and realise that money doesn’t equal happiness. One small problem: Arj loves being rich. Meanwhile, Jeff hates being poor. Lesson… not learned.

Divine intervention meets LA lifestyle envy

Cue up flashy mansions, identity crises, and Keanu’s angel navigating a metaphysical mess of his own making. Sandra Oh pops up as Gabriel’s unimpressed celestial boss, while Keke Palmer joins the cast as a fellow overworked employee in Arj’s world of hustle. With both men not exactly learning the intended moral, it’s looking like Gabriel might be the one who needs a bit of soul-searching.

This marks the feature directorial debut of Emmy-winner Ansari (Master of None, Parks and Recreation), who also wrote the screenplay. Good Fortune was originally preceded by Ansari’s halted project Being Mortal, and it now marks his first completed feature behind the camera.

StudioCanal releases Good Fortune in Australian cinemas on October 16 and Lionsgate releases it in U.S. cinemas on October 17. Take a look at three of the new character posters released by Lionsgate below.
