The very first trailer has dropped for The Great Wall, the upcoming China-shot epic starring Matt Damon.
The first English-language film for director Zhang Yimou, known for Hero and House of Flying Daggers, The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force that make a stand for humanity atop the titular structure. As the teaser-ish trailer hints at, it looks like we’re in for some monster mayhem.
With a reported budget of $US135 million, The Great Wall is the most expensive production ever to take place completely in China. Having a star like Damon and one of China’s most renowned directors are certainly the right steps to make if you’re going to have worldwide, mainstream hit on your hands. With China fast becoming the world’s strongest box-office market, it’s only right that Legendary Pictures aim to capitalise with an action-epic.
Now, fingers crossed the film itself is worth all the effort.
The Great Wall, also starring Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau, will be released in Australia on February 16 and in the U.S. on February 17, 2017.
