Halle Berry is gearing up to kick ass in a mixed martial arts action drama, a film that will also mark her directorial debut.
The Oscar winner, who is currently filming John Wick 3: Parabellum with Keanu Reeves, will be re-teaming with the John Wick fight choreography team for a film titled Bruised. Deadline broke the news, reporting that the film, written by newcomer Michelle Rosenfarb, will follow…
… “Jackie “Justice,” a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she’s ever been good at – fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world, and ultimately fight to become the mother this kid deserves.”
Bruised is currently scheduled to head into production in March 2019. John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk will also be on board, producing alongside Linda Gottlieb and Entertainment 350.
With the combat-skilled team behind the Wick films on board, we can at least expect this one to feature some hard-hitting fight sequences. It’s easy to see Berry embracing the highly physical role; fingers crossed she can pack a punch behind the camera as well.
Berry will be playing a character named Sofia in John Wick 3: Parabellum, which is currently scheduled for US release on 17 May 2019. Berry has also been cast in a remake of the Jeff Bridges and Glenn Close ’85 thriller Jagged Edge.
