Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for upcoming horror-comedy sequel Happy Death Day 2U.
After seemingly beating the time-loop hell in the first film, which found Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) stuck reliving a day in which she is murdered by a masked killer, it’s all starting again. This time around, she won’t just be looking out of her own life, as the killer proceeds to dispense of her college buddies.
Christopher Landon is back as director and writer, with Jason Blum again producing via his hugely successful Blumhouse banner. If you dug the first film’s balance of comedy and slasher film/Groundhog Day movie tropes, you’ll likely be in for another solid time. The new trailer below is clearly going the energetic, tongue-in-cheek route, as a frustrated Gelbman skips the learning section of her predicament and proceeds to figure out how to kick ass.
The first film was a bit of a surprise hit. Produced for just $US4.8 million, the picture went on to make $US122.6 million worldwide. Hence, a sequel. Happy Death Day 2U, also starring Israel Broussard, Suraj Sharma, and Ruby Modine, will be hitting US and Australian cinemas on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree Gelbman (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.
