Warner Bros. and DC Films are moving ahead with their planned Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey spinoff movie.

The studios have settled on up-and-coming screenwriter Christina Hodson to pen the film. The Wrap broke the news, reporting that film will be not be a solo Quinn outing, but rather a picture that focuses on various female superheroes and potential villains from the DC universe.

Aussie actress Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn and is also attached as producer. Robbie has apparently become quite immersed in DC Comics and has fallen in love with many of the female characters from the universe.

Hodson has been making waves over the last few years. The screenwriter had three different screenplays make the Hollywood Black List (yearly list of the best unproductive scripts), has penned the Naomi Watts-starring thriller Shut In, had her spec The Eden Project sold to Sony and Material Pictures, and is also behind Warner Bros’ planned reboot of The Fugitive. Furthermore, Hodson has also written Paramount’s Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee.

No details have been made available regarding what this Harley Quinn/Bird of Prey movie will entail, although Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Katana and Bumblebee have all been mentioned as potential characters for the film. We’ll keep you informed.
