Well, this is interesting.
Warner Bros. is apparently circling the idea of a Harley Quinn movie. According to THR, the studio is looking at a spinoff film that will not only feature Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn, but an entire line-up of female DC characters.
There aren’t any details regarding what movie will entail, although Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Katana and Bumblebee have all been mentioned as potential characters for the film.
Robbie will of course be seen as Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad, and the buzz for her turn in the film has been very positive thus far.
The actress is reportedly a big reason the studio is considering tackling the project. Robbie apparently immersed herself in the comics to learn more about the character and became fascinated with all of DC’s female characters in the process. So much so, that she found a screenwriter, developed a female-focused project and pitched it to WB. And it looks like that meeting went very well. If all goes ahead, Robbie will also be attached as producer.
It’s early days, but it does seem like the project will be kicking off sooner rather than later. All eyes are on Suicide Squad, to not only see if audiences gravitate towards Robbie’s Quinn, but to see if WB can deliver a much-loved DC adaptation after the highly mixed reception afforded to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
BvS, by the way, may not have been loved by all, but it certainly isn’t a financial failure. The film earned $US869.8 million worldwide on a budget of $US250 million, not counting marketing and distribution costs.
