Gareth Evans is back, and he’s bringing the carnage. The director who delivered certified action-cinema bangers with The Raid films has returned to feature filmmaking with Havoc, a brutal Netflix crime thriller starring Tom Hardy. The first teaser trailer has arrived, offering a quick but tantalising glimpse at the mayhem in store. Take a look above.
The Plot
Hardy plays Walker, a badass detective battling through a city’s criminal underbelly after a drug deal spirals out of control. With crime syndicates, corrupt politicians, and even fellow officers closing in, Walker is left with no choice but to fight his way to the truth. Along the way, he’s tasked with rescuing a politician’s estranged son—an objective that soon unearths deeper layers of conspiracy, betrayal, and his own haunted past.
The Cast
Joining Hardy in the chaos is an ensemble cast featuring the ever-commanding Forest Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem), Justified star Timothy Olyphant, and Luis Guzmán (Wednesday). Shadow and Bone’s Jessie Mei Li, The Umbrella Academy’s Justin Cornwell, and Good Omens actor Quelin Sepulveda also join the lineup, along with UFC fighter Michelle Waterson making her film debut. Rounding out the cast are Sunny Pang (Exiled: The Chosen Ones), Jim Caesar (Baby Reindeer), Xelia Mendes-Jones (Fallout), and Yeo Yann Yann (American Born Chinese).

The Long Road to the Screen
Evans both writes and directs the film, which has had a long road to get to the screen. The film originally wrapped shooting in 2021 but then seemed to vanish into the ether, with little official word surfacing for years. Various delays and industry-wide setbacks, including scheduling issues and the Hollywood strikes, kept it in limbo. Rumours even swirled about potential reshoots, which Evans himself shut down last July, confirming that additional photography had only just begun—two and a half years after filming originally ended. “It’s been a long old road filled with scheduling issues, strikes and more scheduling issues while we’ve worked to get the band back together,” the director shared on Instagram.
The Release Date
We’ll finally be able to see what Hardy and Evans have in store when Havoc lands on Netflix on April 25th.
