Cliver Barker creation Hellraiser is set to receive a re-imagining thanks to Spyglass Media Group.

A new Hellraiser movie is now on the fast track, with Spyglass moving forward with financing and development to have the film in worldwide theatrical distribution asap. According to THR, the studio has assigned the project to David S. Goyer to write and produce.

Goyer has many big credits as writer and producer, including Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, and the Blade movie trilogy. On the horror side of things (not counting Blade’s horror elements), Goyer wrote and directed 2009’s The Unborn.

“I’ve been a fan of Clive’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and The Hellbound Heart novella,” Goyer said in a statement. “Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary [Barber, Spyglass chairman and CEO] is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.”

Said  Barber: “Clive and I go back more than 30 years together. For generations, his brilliantly twisted and imaginative Hellraiser haunted the minds of moviegoers with its searing imagery of Pinhead. David is the perfect storyteller to continue Clive’s vision for a new theatrical version of Hellraiser.”

1987’s Hellraiser was a British horror film both written and directed by Clive Barker, the man behind Nightbreed and Candyman. The film, based on Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, follows the resurrection of Frank (Sean Chapman), who had entered another dimension and had his body torn to pieces by a demonic race known as Cenobites. Years later, Frank’s brother (Andrew Robinson) move’s into their late mother’s abandoned house with his new wife Julia (Clare Higgins). An accident causes some of Larry’s blood to spill on the attic floor, which triggers Frank’s resurrection, and leads to the Cenobites.

A huge franchise followed. There are ten films, a series of books, various comic books, and additional merchandise and media. The tenth film, Hellraiser: Judgment, was released on DVD in February 2018.
