The official trailer has dropped for Jordan Peele-produced horror-thriller Him — and it’s turning American football into a full-blown nightmare.

A promising career takes a sinister detour
Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers, seen in the recent I Know What You Did Last Summer) is a rising football star whose future is derailed after a violent attack by a fan leaves him with a traumatic brain injury. Convinced his career is over, Cameron’s fortunes appear to change when his idol — legendary quarterback Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans) — offers him an invitation to train at his private compound.
At first, it’s the kind of once-in-a-lifetime opportunity athletes dream of. But as the days pass, the line between training and torment begins to blur, and Cameron realises that playing for greatness might come at a horrifying cost.
The trailer doesn’t hold back in teasing the extremes Isaiah is pushed and willing to go to. From hurling footballs into players’ faces as punishment to bone-crunching hits and unsettling, ritual-like ceremonies, his methods push beyond any definition of coaching. This thing looks as brutal as it does stylish. Once thing’s clear: This is no standard sports drama.

Him is directed by Justin Tipping (Kicks, Joe vs. Carole) and produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope), Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson. The screenplay comes from Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, whose script was featured on the Black List, with Tipping also contributing.
Joining Withers and Wayans in the cast are Julia Fox (Uncut Gems), Tim Heidecker (Us), Jim Jefferies (The Jim Jefferies Show), hip-hop artist Guapdad 4000, and Grammy-nominated rapper Tierra Whack, both making their feature debuts.
Him opens in U.S. cinemas on September 19 and Australian cinemas on October 2.
