Amazon Prime has unveiled the first trailer for Homecoming, an upcoming psychological thriller series led by Oscar winner Julia Roberts.
Based on the popular podcast of the same name, Homecoming follows a caseworker (Roberts) at a facility that helps soldiers transition back to civilian life. Four years later, a Department of Defense auditor comes to interview her about the reason behind her leaving the facility. And… yeah, it’s looking trippy AF.
With Homecoming and Cary Fukunaga’s Emma Stone & Jonah Hill series Maniac coming up, it seems to be a good time to be a fan of mind-messing narratives. There’s a great cast here, including Bobby Cannavale and Sissy Spacek, and there’s also the enticing fact that all ten episodes are directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail. Mr. Robot has had a bit of a bumpy ride since the fantastic first season, but it’s showcased an enticingly hallucinogenic tone and slick direction; Esmail’s directed 37 of that show’s 44 episodes.
Fingers crossed for Homecoming. The series kicks off on Amazon Prime on November 2.
Synopsis for Homecoming:
Homecoming is a mind-bending psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts and directed by Sam Esmail (creator of Mr. Robot). Heidi Bergman (Roberts) is a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition back to civilian life. Walter Cruz (Stephan James) is one of these soldiers, eager to begin the next phase of his life. Overseeing Heidi and the facility is Colin Belfast (Bobby Cannavale), an ambitious company man whose manic demands point to questionable motives.
Four years later, Heidi has started a new life, living with her mother (Sissy Spacek) and working as a small-town waitress, when a Department of Defense auditor (Shea Whigham) comes to her with questions about why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi begins to realize that there’s a whole other story behind the story she’s been telling herself.
Based on the popular podcast of the same name, Homecoming is created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg. The cast also includes Jeremy Allen White, Alex Karpovsky, Dermot Mulroney, among others.
