“We’re just getting started.”
Yes, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) appears to be the sole key figure seated in the oval office now. Netflix has dropped our first taste of House of Cards‘ final season, which will, of course, arrive sans Kevin Spacey.
There was a giant question mark when the streaming giant placed the acclaimed series on hold as they figured out how best to handle Spacey, lead actor and an executive producer on the series. Once they decided to cut ties with him completely, fans were understandably concerned that the political drama would have no ending. Well, there’s no reason he should ruin it all, especially for those that worked hard for years to deliver a strong series. Netflix decided to go ahead with a Wright-led, eight-episode final season, one that would add Oscar-nominated stars Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear to the mix.
It’s intriguing stuff. Exactly how are they going to explain the absence of Francis Underwood? What will have gone down from season 5’s finale until now? And will this final season prove satisfactory without one of the primary characters we’ve been following since HoC kicked off in 2013?
All will be clear when season 6, also starring Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver, arrives later this year.
