Rosamund Pike has been receiving wide acclaim for her performance in upcoming dark comedy thriller I Care a Lot, which has its official trailer for you to watch below.
I Care a Lot has Pike playing Marla, a crooked legal guardian who drains the savings of her elderly wards. Everything takes a turn when the latest elderly lady she tries to swindle (Dianne Wiest) turns out to be more than she first appears. The cast includes Peter Dinklage as a gangster who is set on her tail and Eiza González as Marla’s business-partner and lover.
The film was met with solid reviews at its Toronto International Film Festival premiere in September, critics commending Pike’s deliciously nasty role and the film’s entertainingly twisted turns. This is the third feature for writer-director J Blakeson, who broke out with 2009 thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed and followed it up with ill-received attempted franchise starter The 5th Wave.
I Care a Lot, also starring Chris Messina, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Macon Blair, will be hitting Netflix in the US and Amazon Prime Video in Australia (as well as the UK, Canada, Ireland, Italy and New Zealand) on February 19th.
Official synopsis for I Care a Lot:
Poised with sharklike self-assurance, Marla Grayson (Academy Award® nominee Rosamund Pike) is a professional, court-appointed guardian for dozens of elderly wards whose assets she seizes and cunningly bilks through dubious but legal means. It’s a well-oiled racket that Marla and her business-partner and lover Fran (Eiza González) use with brutal efficiency on their latest “cherry,” Jennifer Peterson (two-time Academy Award® winner Dianne Wiest) — a wealthy retiree with no living heirs or family. But when their mark turns out to have an equally shady secret of her own and connections to a volatile gangster (Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage), Marla is forced to level up in a game only predators can play — one that’s neither fair, nor square.
