HBO has released the full-length trailer for I Know This Much is True, an upcoming drama limited series from director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines).
Based on the bestseller by author Wally Lamb, the limited series finds Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo playing identical twin brothers: Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, the latter of whom is a paranoid schizophrenic. When an incident leads to Thomas being placed in an asylum, Dominick finds himself on a difficult path to look out for him. As HBO describes it, I Know This Much is True is “a family saga, it tells a story of betrayal, sacrifice and forgiveness set against the backdrop of 20th-century America.”
Cianfrance has a knack for highly emotional, character-driven narratives, and with Ruffalo carrying what look like two heavy roles, this could be a hard-hitting series to add to the list. We’re looking forward to it. The cast includes Melissa Leo, Rosie O’Donnell, Archie Panjabi, Imogen Poots, Juliette Lewis and Kathryn Hahn.
I Know This Much is True premieres on HBO on April 27.
