Idris Elba will be facing off against the king of the jungle in an upcoming survival thriller.
Elba has signed up to star in a Universal Pictures film titled Beast, set to be directed by Everest and 2 Guns helmer Baltasar Kormákur.
Plot details are still under wraps for the most part, although THR, the outlet that broke the story, reports that the film will be tonally in the vein of Blake Lively vs Shark movie The Shallows. The difference with Beast: Elba vs Lion. Hell yeah.
It’s based on a concept by Jaime Primak-Sullivan (Breaking In), with a screenplay to be written by Ryan Eagle, whose credits include Dwayne Johnson monster pic Rampage and Liam Neeson flicks The Commuter and Non-Stop.
Icelandic filmmaker Kormákur certainly knows his way around survival stories, having tackled high peaks with Everest and the oceans with Adrift and The Deep. His directorial efforts also include Mark Wahlberg crime-drama Contraband and 2010 drama-thriller Inhale.
Among Elba’s other upcoming features: DC film The Suicide Squad, drama Concrete Cowboy, Netflix revenge film The Harder They Fall, and (hopefully soon) George Miller’s long-in-the-works epic romance Three Thousand Years of Longing.
