The first trailer has arrived for If Beale Street Could Talk, the sophomore effort from Oscar-winning Moonlight writer-director Barry Jenkins.

The film stars KiKi Layne (Chicago Med) and Stephan James (Selma, Race), and it looks absolutely wonderful. It’s a great first trailer, released on what would have been the 94th birthday of renowned author James Baldwin, showcasing gorgeous visuals and teasing powerful performances. Could Jenkins be on his way with another award-attracting picture? We’ll see.

Baldwin’s ’74 book tells the story of a newly engaged young Harlem woman who must race against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while pregnant with their first child.

Colman Domingo, Brian Tyree Henry, Teyonah Parris, Finn Wittrock, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein and Regina King also star in If Beale Street Could Talk, which will have its premiere at Toronto Film Festival in September and will hit US cinemas on November 30. High hopes for this one.
