Batman’s leading a Lego Movie spinoff, and the first images from the film have been released ahead of the film’s trailer, which is expected to drop in the next couple of days.
Will Arnett is back to voice The Dark Knight in the The Lego Batman Movie, the spinoff set for U.S. release on February 10, 2017.
USA Today was first to drop the images below, giving out a bit of a synopsis in the process:
The story is set around the solitary figure in his killer hide-out — all the Batsuits and silk kimonos he wants — but whose main relationship is with his butler Alfred (voiced by Ralph Fiennes). Batman’s world upends with the introduction of Dick Grayson (or Robin, voiced by Michael Cera) and Barbara Gordon (or Batgirl, voiced by Rosario Dawson).
Director Chris Mckay, who worked as animation co-director on The Lego Movie, describes the film as “About a Boy as directed by (action director) Michael Mann.”
Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed The Lego Movie to a draw exceeding $469 million worldwide, so the audience is no doubt there. Whether The Batman Lego Movie surpasses, or even matches, the numbers and acclaim seen by the first film remains to be seen.
