The film has Narcos and Logan actor Boyd Holbrook playing Thomas Lockhart, a cop who begins tracking down a serial in 1988. It looks like the case has come to a shocking end, that is until it appears that the suspect, played by Cleopatra Coleman, is mysteriously resurfacing every nine years. As Netflix’s synopsis reads: “the killer’s crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation.”
At least from this highly intriguing trailer, time travel could be the key plot point here, although it’s hard to be completely sure. This could be another solid film from director Jim Mickle, who hasn’t made “big” films but has delivered some good ones with vampire post-apocalyptic film Stake Land and underrated 2014 crime-thriller Cold in July. The script comes from Gregory Weidman and Geoffrey Tock, who come from the television realm with credits including Limitless and Defiance.
And it’s arriving this month! In the Shadow of the Moon, also starring Michael C. Hall, Bokeem Woodbine, Rudi Dharmalingam and Rachel Keller, will hit Netflix on September 27th.
Netflix’s synopsis for In the Shadow of the Moon:
In 1988, Philadelphia police officer Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook), hungry to become a detective, begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years. But when the killer’s crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation, Lock’s obsession with finding the truth threatens to destroy his career, his family, and possibly his sanity. Directed by Jim Mickle and also starring Michael C. Hall and Cleopatra Coleman, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is a genre-blending psychological thriller that examines the power of time, and how its passing can either bring us together or tear us apart.
