20th Century Fox has dropped the very first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, the long awaited sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster.
Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson and Bill Pullman’s Thomas J. Whitmore, among others, are back in this follow-up that sees earth once again under attack by angry extra terrestrials. A few brave men and women are all that stand in the way of humanity’s extinction. Among the characters is Dylan Hiller (Jessie Usher), the now-older son of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller.
The first film is by no means a subtle sci-fi endeavour, but it sure is one hell of a fun popcorn flick. And it’s sequel, at least from the trailer, looks to be following in that vein nicely. As expected, everything looks epic as hell, and it’s good to see humour still playing a part. Yep, we’re in.
Independence Day: Resurgence, also starring Liam Hemsworth, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward, will be hitting Australia on June 23 and the U.S. on June 24.
