It’s been twenty years since those aliens attacked earth and were brought down by a computer virus. Well, they’ve had plenty of time to devise a new plan, and they’re pissed.
The new trailer provides more of a narrative connection to the first film, as the relationships that Maika Monroe’s Patricia Whitmore (daughter of Bill Pullman’s President) and Jessie Usher’s Dylan Hiller (son of Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller) have with their respective fathers is made slightly clearer. Alas, it looks like Smith’s character has since bit the dust. Of course, there’s also a ton of destruction on offer; as expected from Roland Emmerich, the Independence Day director also known for The Day After Tomorrow and 2012.
We’re not expecting something incredible here, but we are hoping for a fun blockbuster to enjoy on the big screen. So far, this looks like something you’d expect. Fingers crossed the entertainment value is high.
Independence Day: Resurgence, also starring Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sela Ward, hits Australia on June 23 and the U.S. on June 24.
