Check out the trailer that’s arrived for documentary Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo, exploring the eventful life that the Mexican-American actor has led thus far.
Featuring the man himself and a number of people that been a part of his life, including director Robert Rodriguez, comedian/actor Cheech Marin, and actress Michelle Rodriguez, the documentary tells of how Trejo went from drug abuse and criminal to Hollywood actor, businessman and inspirational figure. Trejo’s story is a fascinating one, addicted to drugs as a child, going in and out of jail for years, and winning boxing titles while serving time in San Quentin before a turn of events led to him landing a part as a convict extra on Andrey Konchalovskiy’s 1985 film Runaway Train. The rest, as they say, is history.
The trailer was released on May 5th in the US, coinciding with the annual Mexican celebration Cinco de Mayo. “Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!,” Trejo posted on social media with the trailer. “It’s a special day for me every year, but this year even more so because I can share the official trailer for Inmate #1, the documentary telling the story of my life. You’ll be able to watch it around the world this summer!”
Directed by Brett Harvey (The Culture High, Ice Guardians), Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo will have a U.S. Digital release on July 7.
