Insidious: Chapter 4 has officially been greenlit.
Blumhouse Productions have announced that the fourth film in the horror franchise will be penned by series co-writer Leigh Whannell, who wrote and directed last year’s Insidious: Chapter 3. Attached to direct is Adam Robitel, whose previous feature was the 2014 horror film The Taking of Deborah Logan.
No plot details have been released, although it has been confirmed that Lin Shaye will be reprising her role as parapsychologist Elise Rainier. Considering (spoiler) the end of the first film saw Rainier meet her demise, her casting suggests Insidious: Chapter 4 will be another prequel.
The Insidious films are hugely profitable. Insidious: Chapter 2, for example, cost $US10 million to make and raked in $US161.9 million in box office receipts. The three films have earned a combined $US371 million worldwide.
Insidious: Chapter 4, which will have James wan (co-creator and director of the first film) on board as producer, is set for U.S. release on October 20, 2017.
