The first Insidious: Chapter 3 trailer has been released by Focus Pictures, giving us our first footage from the third film in the horror franchise. This threequel is actually a prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family. It tells the story of how psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) contacted the dead to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. Dermot Mulroney plays the girl’s father.
These films are all starting to look way too similar to each other; James Wan’s brand of horror is certainly paying off. Interestingly, Insidious: Chapter 3 marks the directorial debut of Leigh Whannell, Wan’s long-time collaborator. Whannell penned Saw, Dead Silence, Insidious, Insidious 2, and also writes the third entry. While Insidious had its moments, we didn’t find it all that great. The sequel, even less so. Third time lucky?
