The first trailer has been released for Invincible, Amazon‘s upcoming adult-animated series adaptation of the comic of the same name by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.
The plot follows 17-year old Mark Grayson (voiced by Walking Dead‘s Steven Yuen), whose father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons). As Mark’s own powers develop, he’s thrust into the world of superheroes and supervillains and uncovers more than he bargained for.
Comic creators Kirkman and Walker are behind the animated show, which should be a big boost of confidence for fans of the source material. Those aware of the comics will know that things get… bloody, to say the least, and the show looks to follow suit.
“We’re definitely not holding back on the violence at all,” Kirkman said during the online New York Comic-Con panel for the series, which we’ve included for you to watch below. “If anything, the violence is a little more intense.”
There’s also a big voice cast here. Apart from Yuen and Simmons, the cast includes Sandra Oh, Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Walton Goggins and Zachary Quinto, among others.
Invincible‘s first season (assuming more are greenlit in the future), which will run for eight hour-long episodes, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2021.
