Action fans should be in for some very impressive melees in the upcoming Ip Man film, Donnie Yen’s final chapter as the character.
“I am quite particular about making the fights highly realistic and that every punch feels like it hits hard,” says Yen in a behind-the-scenes featurette that’s been released for Ip Man 4: The Finale. He unveils some real bruises: “It often gets pretty ferocious in our combats.”
As has been the case in the franchise’s previous instalments, the next film will feature clashes of fighting styles, and one particular scene will see Ip Man’s Wing Chun going up against Wan Zong Hua’s (Yue Wu) Tai chi – in a one-handed fight.
Franchise director Wilson Yip returns at the helm, with fight choreography by the legendary Yuen Wo-Pin (The Matrix, Kill Bill). Also starring action star Scott Adkins, Kwok-Kwan Chan (back as Bruce Lee), Vanness Wu, Chris Collins and Wu Yue, Ip Man 4 will hit US cinemas on Christmas Day.
Kung Fu master Ip Man, comes to America to find a school for his son but soon realizes life abroad and racial discrimination is far worse than expected. Under the conflicts between Chinese and Western martial artists, he decides to re-examine his position for the dignity of Chinese culture.
