FX has released the official trailer for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17, offering a wild new look at the mayhem the Gang has in store. As always, the long-running sitcom continues to skewer social norms with complete disregard for decency, giving fans more of the unfiltered debauchery that’s defined the series since its 2005 debut. Among the season’s highlights is a crossover with Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary, picking up from an earlier episode that aired as part of Abbott’s own run. That instalment saw the Paddy’s Pub crew fulfilling court-ordered community service at the titular school. In season 17, the tables turn — and the teachers take a field trip to Sunny territory.

Abbott creator and star Quinta Brunson previously detailed the collaboration in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining how a tweet from Rob McElhenney sparked the idea. “We’re both under the Disney umbrella, we can make this work,” she said. “They represent a part of South Philly, and we represent a part of West Philly that is very real… Charlie [Day] and Rob came into the room with us one day, they were wonderful, just excellent, excellent collaborators. I can’t say enough kind words about them.” She added, “Above all else, Rob and Charlie and them, they’re like me. We like comedy, and we want to do exciting things with comedy… it’s just magical.”
But that’s far from the only madness in season 17. The trailer also previews Danny DeVito’s Frank Reynolds entering The Golden Bachelor universe — yes, complete with host Jesse Palmer. There are glimpses of DeVito trying to find love in the most Sunny way imaginable, and let’s just say rose ceremonies will never be the same.
Meanwhile, fan-favourite wreck David Hornsby returns as Cricket — somehow looking worse for wear than ever — and the infamous Lawyer is rumoured to show up once more, promising more callbacks to the show’s twisted mythology. And in true Sunny fashion, expect shameless schemes, morally bankrupt business ventures, and plenty of Paddy’s Pub nonsense as the gang continues chasing wealth, attention, and utter validation.
If you’re in the U.S., It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17 premieres July 9 on FXX with two new episodes, streaming the next day on Hulu. Those in Australia will be able to catch the season premiere on July 17 on Disney+.
