If new rumours are to be believed, J.J. Abrams may very well be having a second crack as a Star Wars director with Star Wars: Episode IX.
Latino Review says that they’ve “been able to independently verify it four times that his name is the front-runner for the last trilogy installment,” a factor they support by saying how happy Disney has been with what they’ve seen of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens thus far.
It makes sense that Disney would want Abrams back for episode 9, especially if this film is a resounding success. Let’s face it, it’ll obviously rake in the dough, but general opinion about quality will always matter to a brand’s reputation. If, like LR suggest, Disney is over the moon with Abrams’ work, we can’t imagine him not wanting to take another stab too.
The first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), will hit U.S. cinemas on December 16, 2017.
Star Wars: Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), will hit U.S. cinemas on May 26, 2017.
