After five features and four actors taking on the role, the character of Jack Ryan is set to have his own television series.
According to Deadline, Tom Clancy’s CIA hero will be getting the television treatment thanks to Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland. The project is being backed by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Paramount TV.
Apparently this project attracted the interest of quite a few parties, with multiple outlets putting in bids to get it on their turf.
The series is to be “a new contemporary take on the character” and will not be an adapted from one of Clancy’s various novels featuring Jack Ryan. The novels will be treated as source material, keeping the character’s primary occupation of a CIA analyst/operative.
Ryan was played by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, Ben Affleck in The Sum of all Fears, and Chris Pine in last year’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
