Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Dan Gilroy are teaming up again for a Netflix horror-thriller.
The untitled picture, which will also star Nightcrawler actress Rene Russo, has been expanding its impressive cast list. Set to join Gyllenhaal and Russo is Zawe Ashton (Nocturnal Animals), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler in Netflix’s Stranger Things), Tom Sturridge (On the Road, Far from the Madding Crowd), Daveed Diggs (The Get-Down, Wonder), Aussie Oscar nominee Toni Collette and two-time Oscar nominee John Malkovich.
According to Variety, the outlet that broke the news of the cast expansion, the film’s “plot follows big-money artists and mega-collectors who pay a high price when art collides with commerce.” Further narrative details are being kept under wraps.
It’s certainly a strong cast, hopefully boding well for Gilroy’s follow-up to the almost buzz-less Denzel Washington starrer Roman J. Israel, Esq., which earned Washington a Best Actor nom. If Nightcrawler was any indication, a second Gilroy and Gyllenhaal team-up could mean we’re in for another winner. Fingers crossed.
The untitled Netflix film is currently shooting in Los Angeles and is expected to hit the streaming giant sometime later this year.
