At the time of writing, Avengers: Endgame has earned a massive $US2.303 billion worldwide, passing Titanic‘s box office pull of $US2.187 billion. This currently places Endgame in the second position in the list of highest-grossing films of all time.
“To Kevin and everybody at Marvel,” Cameron wrote in an Instagram post. “An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever.”
Cameron’s post also came with an image of the Titanic hitting the Avengers logo:
It’s a more positive comment from the filmmaker, who last year said that he was hoping for “Avenger fatigue.”
“I’m hoping we’ll start getting ‘Avenger’ fatigue here pretty soon,” Cameron said in April 2018. “Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”
Cameron still holds the highest-grossing film of all time with Avatar, which holds top position with $US2.788 billion. There’s a good chance Cameron will have more congratulations to share soon…
