Cameras are officially rolling on the next film from Aussie director James Wan.
The Aquaman and Furious 7 helmer is heading back to his darker, more small-budget horror roots with his tenth movie, which we now know has been titled Malignant. Wan took to social media to unveil a pic of the first slate, which featured the title and the current working logo:
“I’m super excited to go back to my indie roots with this hard-R thriller,” Wan announced in August. “An original horror idea (not a reboot/remake or anything based on existing IP) with old school, practical effects and no giant, blue screen sets.”
It’s an exciting proposition for Wan, who has kicked off big horror franchises with Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious. With that trajectory so far, don’t be surprised if Malignant proves to be a franchise starter as well.
Malignant will be starring Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, George Young, Maddie Hasson, Michole Briana White and Aussie actress Jacqueline McKenzie. No plot details for the horror-thriller are yet known.
