Momoa will be starring in and producing Sweet Girl, an action film set to mark the feature directorial debut for Brian Andrew Mendoza. Mendoza has worked as producer and cinematographer on Momoa-starring film Braven and series Frontier. He’ll be producing alongside Momoa, Brad Peyton and Jeff Fierson.
Sweet Girl will find Momoa playing Cooper, a devastated husband who heads on a journey of vengeance, determined to bring justice to those responsible for his wife’s death. At the same time he must protect the one family member he has left, his daughter.
The screenplay comes from Gregg Hurwitz (V, The Book of Henry) and Philip Eisner (Event Horizon), with current revisions being done by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Pursuit Force video game scribe Will Staples.
“I’m excited to partner with Netflix once again,” said Momoa, whose Netflix series Frontier has thus far had three seasons. “I’m putting a dream team together from Brad and Jeff to my best friend, Brian who has been my partner for over ten years. It’s a dream come true to collaborate with him and deliver his vision.”
Momoa had a big hit with Aquaman, which earned $US1.1 billion and is so far the highest-grossing film in the DC cinematic universe. On the horizon for Momoa: Dune, the sci-fi epic from director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners); a dystopian sci-fi series titled See, which has been set up at Apple TV+; and a planned Aquaman sequel.
