After so, so, so long of The Crow reboot being stuck in development hell, it appears it may actually be coming to life.
Sony has announced that their reboot of The Crow will be hitting U.S. cinemas on October 11, 2019. As of now, that weekend in the U.S. will also see the release of an animated Addams Family movie, a Nicole Kidman and Finn Wolfhard-starring drama titled The Goldfinch, and a feature adaptation of Nickelodeon series Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
Honestly, it’s been like a joke of a project, with countless stops and starts that have seen actors such as Luke Evans, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hiddleston and Jack Huston come and go, and filmmakers such as Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Stephen Norrington and Javier F. Gutierrez circle the helm at one point or another.
It was revealed in August of 2016 that Aquaman star Jason Momoa would be taking on the lead role, with The Hallows helmer Corin Hardy signing on to direct. Then, of course, another big stumbling block came when Relativity Media went bankrupt, leaving The Crow in limbo… again. Sony soon swooped in and acquired the reboot, and it looks like they’re finally getting it in motion.
Momoa has wrapped filming Aquaman and has finished promotional duties on Justice League, so he should be able to schedule in The Crow once he wraps shooting Frontier season 3. Hopefully this is really it.
This reboot is expected to be a more faithful adaptation of the 1989 comic book by James O’Barr, as opposed to a remake of the ’94 feature classic directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee.
