A big-screen adaptation of Craig Silvey’s best-selling Australian novel Jasper Jones is on the way, and the film’s first teaser trailer and images have been released.
Directed by Rachel Perkins, known for Bran Nue Dae, Radiance and One Night the Moon, Jasper Jones is the story of Charlie (Levi Miller), a 14-year-old boy living in a small town in Western Australia during the summer of ’69. One night he is woken by Jasper (Aaron L. McGrath), a mixed-race outcast who takes Charlie into the forest and shows him something that will shake the entire community.
The award winning, highly acclaimed novel touches on themes such as prejudice and racism, and could prove to the right type of material for a strong picture. Strong source material, a good director and a fantastic cast – including Toni Collette, Hugo Weaving and Angourie Rice; we’re very intrigued with what’s on offer here.
Jasper Jones hits Aussie cinemas on March 2, 2017.
