Amy Adams will play Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic from Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallee.
Ron and Theresa Terry penned the first screenplay for the film, which is currently titled Get It While You Can. The latest draft comes from Dallas Buyers Club writers Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack.
Joplin was the lead singer of the rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later emerged as a successful solo artist. Joplin’s rise in the rock world was short lived, she died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27.
Adams has openly been chasing the role for quite some time now and it looks like she may be on to a winner; Vallee’s track record certainly places this project in a performance-driven spotlight. Vallee directed Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto to Oscar wins with Dallas Buyers Club.
Vallee has directed Reese Witherspoon in Wild, which will hit U.S. cinemas on December 5 and Australian cinemas on January 22, and has also wrapped up Demolition, a dramedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper.
Amy Adams has a slew of high-profile gigs on the pipeline. She’s expected to receive her sixth Oscar nomination with Tim Burton’s upcoming Big Eyes, is currently in-production on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will be leading a sci-fi film from Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve titled Story of Your Life.
