Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking is adding Jeff Daniels to its cast for the upcoming third season. The two-time Emmy winner is set to appear in a recurring guest role, joining series leads Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.
Daniels will be playing Jimmy Laird’s father. How the dynamic between the two plays out is under wraps for now, although season two’s ending suggests a possible reckoning for Jimmy as he continues rebuilding his life and relationships. The previous season closed with Jimmy forgiving both himself and Brett Goldstein’s character, Sean, for their respective roles in the events that left him widowed. The reappearance of a parent seems primed to stir things up further.
Daniels marks a notable addition to the ensemble, bringing his decades of experience in both drama and comedy to the well-received series. While he’s spent much of the last ten years focused on heavier material—including The Newsroom, Godless, and American Rust—audiences are likely to remember his turn in the Dumb and Dumber films, a reminder of his comedic chops. Shrinking will be his first major live-action comedy series role.
