Lopez will be joining Owen Wilson in a romantic comedy titled Marry Me, to be directed by renowned TV director Kat Coiro (Shameless, Modern Family, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). John Rogers (The Librarians) and Tami Sagher (30 Rock) wrote the screenplay, an adaptation of a graphic novel written by Bobby Crosby. Harper Dill (The Mindy Project, The Mick) did a rewrite.
The rom-com is being described as Notting Hill meets The Proposal. The plot will find Lopez playing a pop superstar who, moments before marrying him at Madison Square Garden, finds out that her rock-star fiancé has been cheating on her. She has a breakdown on stage, leading her to spontaneously pick a random math teacher (Wilson) out of the crowd to wed instead. What begins as a bit of a goof, goes on to become an exploration of relationships, expectations and destiny.
Marry Me will be produced by Lopez, Rogers, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina .
Lopez is currently filming Hustlers, which also stars Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer and Julia Stiles. Wilson is among the cast members of Wes Anderson’s next film, The French Dispatch, set for release in 2020.
