Titled The Good Nurse, the film will follow the pursuit and capture of Cullen, a US nurse and married father who may have killed as many as 400 patients over 16 years and across nine hospitals. While Cullen did confess that he killed up to forty patients during his career as a nurse, subsequent interviews with police, psychiatrists, and journalists have led experts to believe that he may have killed hundreds. He is currently serving multiple life sentences.
Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will be playing the killer, with two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain on board as a nurse who worked alongside him and who risked it all to work with detectives and bring him down.
Set to make his English-language directing debut with The Good Nurse is standout Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm, who directed A Hijacking and A War, and who co-wrote the fantastic 2012 picture The Hunt. Penny Dreadful scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns is adapting the book of the same name by author Charles Graeber.
It’s a deeply disturbing true story, and it could be material for a very strong film with this level of talent on board. Stay tuned.
