Following on from news that Eli Roth will be directing Bruce Willis in a remake of Death Wish, comes word that the horror filmmaker will be teaming up with Jim Carrey for a long-in-the-works project.
Carrey is set to star in Aleister Aracane, a project set up at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
Roth will be directing the horror pic, an adaptation of Steven Niles’ comic first published in 2004, and Jon Croker, who penned 2014 horror sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, is attached to write the screenplay.
According to Variety, Aleister Aracane tells of “a group of children who befriend a bitter old man ruined and shunned by their parents. After his death, only they have the power to thwart the curse he has laid upon their town.”
There’s no official word as to what role Carrey will be taking on, although it’s highly likely he’ll be playing that bitter old man. This marks a return to more serious fare for Carrey, whose career has taken a bit of a dip over the last few years.
It’s interesting to see Roth continuing to circle big projects, and the fact that Spielberg’s a force behind this one certainly bodes well for the filmmaker’s career.
We’ll keep you informed.
