There’s been an entertaining trend of YouTube videos featuring experts in certain fields reacting to and breaking down particular scenes from movies. Sometimes, it’s borderline eye-rolling clickbait; other times it can be informative and entertaining.
Let’s go for the latter here with this new GQ video with American retired officer of the United States Navy, Navy SEAL, and all-round badass Jocko Willink. It’s safe to say, this guy knows his stuff. It’s the second video of his movie breakdown series with GQ (don’t worry, we’ve also included the first part below), and here he’s talking about acclaimed films Saving Private Ryan and Apocalypse Now, as well as G.I. Jane and Navy SEALS.
As you can imagine, Steven Spielberg’s highly-lauded D-Day opening of Saving Private Ryan doesn’t get much criticism from Jocko, who points out the real-life horrors of such a situation and even throws in a factoid as to how the SEALS came to be. You can check out what he says about the other three films – as well as the first video he did with GQ, covering American Sniper and Zero Dark Thirty, among other films – below.
