But will we see him?
Yes, John Cena has been cast in the ninth film Universal’s hit Fast & Furious franchise. Diesel teased Cena’s involvement on social media back in April, saying, “I know this sounds crazy, but every blue moon I feel like Pablo [Paul Walker] up there sends me someone. Another soldier in the fight for truth.” Cena then turned up with his signature ‘You can’t see me’ sign.
Now, Universal and Cena himself have made it official, the latter posting a still from the first film…
Plot details are being kept under wraps, and it isn’t known if Cena is on board as a good guy or a villain, although Deadline does report that he’s playing “a badass.”
Dwayne Johnson is not expected to be in Fast & Furious 9, which isn’t much of a surprise since he’s leading the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw and there was much ado made of the fallout that occurred between him and Diesel.
Justin Lin, who has directed four films in the Fast & Furous franchise, has crafted the story and will be directing from a screenplay written by Daniel Casey (Kin). The film is lined up for Australian release on May 21, 2020 and US release on May 22, 2020.
