Keanu Reeves is back as the hitman who really liked his dog in John Wick 2.
Lionsgate has confirmed that the sequel is indeed coming to life, with director David Leitch and Chad Stahelski returning with Reeves in the titular role. Screenwriter Derek Kolstad is also back on writing duties.
“With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, said in a statement.
“We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”
While John Wick has certainly gathered itself a loyal following of sorts, it wasn’t a huge hit. Box Office Mojo has it locked in with a worldwide gross of $78 million on a production budget of $20 million. But, as Forbes (via Collider) points out, John Wick “also earned around $20m from digital platforms alone, as well as around $17m from DVD and Blu Ray sales.”
