Director & Writer Team Lined Up for Joker and Harley Quinn Movie

The DC movie news keeps on coming.

Following on from the surprising news that Warner Bros. was crafting a Joker origin movie, comes word that the studio has made a big move in their development of a Joker and Harley Quinn picture.

Crazy, Stupid, Love and Focus filmmakers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have entered final negotiations with WB to write and direct a film focusing on both The Joker and Quinn. Unlike that aforementioned Joker-focused film, this one will be a part of the DCEU, so Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are expected to reprise their Suicide Squad roles here.

THR first reported the news, with one of their insiders describing the film as “an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine.”

This film is reportedly being lined up for after Suicide Squad 2, which is apparently being fast-tracked by the studio. No director has yet been locked in for the still-untitled sequel; Mel Gibson and The Shallows helmer Jaume Collet-Serra have been previously been mentioned in reports. The latter apparently passed on the project to direct the Dwayne Johnson-starring Disney adventure Jungle Cruise.

Ficarra and Requa, whose credits also include I Love You Phillip Morris and the drama series This Is Us, have worked with Robbie on Focus and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

As has become the norm, there’s a lot of DC-related activity happening over at Warner Bros. Stay tuned for the next development.
